History
I experienced people and the land through playing volleyball. I can also experience history by playing volleyball. I believe this because I can make connections from history to the land. An example of this would be that each team/school has a spirit animal. Tempe’s is buffaloes. Those animals have strong meaning behind them just like how they did for the indigenous people. A school can have a bear as their spirit animal and to the indigenous people bears symbolize courage, physical strength, and leadership. They can learn about this and feel more inspired to live up to their spirit animals.
Land
A way I connect to nature through volleyball is by traveling to different schools which is similar to traveling to new places and learning about different school's backgrounds or just meeting a new place you haven't been to thanks to volleyball. An example of this is when we went to Flagstaff for a game. I have been to Flagstaff before but not that part so when I went I got to experience the weather at that time and how pretty nature is. It is said that when playing in higher elevations it is harder to breathe and I didn’t know this because I have never played in Flagstaff It was a great learning experience. I learned that playing in a higher elevation like Flagstaff it can be harder to breathe because of the oxygen. I love to travel and I think it's a great way or have a connection with history through the land.
Peoples
We learned about the black people in the essential lesson "Trade of enslaved people: words of Equiano'', the Indigenous people in the essential lesson "Indigenous Americans" and the white people in the essential lesson "Manifest destiny DBQ". Learning about these people I learned that everyone had different backgrounds and should never be treated differently because of it. In "Trade of enslaved people " I learned that they were being taken from their homes to be enslaved and they had no idea what was going on. They thought they were going to be eaten and had to travel on a boat that had them in horrible condition. What they had to go through wasn't their fault. In "Indigenous Americans" I learned how much they care for the land how they think about the importance of history. It helped me appreciate the land and the history involved with the land. In "Manifest destiny" I learned that there was a time when americans thought they could take over any land they wanted to because the could and because the thought thats what god said. Learning about all the peoples has opened my eyes into seeing and caring for the world more.
